– this is pop here and i have just finished my first week of middle school! I had a good time and loved trying the new things out! Here are a few tips i have picked up over the few days I have been at that school.
1. Have a good generalization of your school and know where your hall is, this will make the first day go by in a breeze.
2. Next, you want to have yourself organized and ready to move fast. Middle school is a much faster than elementary school.
3. Also, you will want to have an organized locker and make sure you can get to all your things fast. You will want to beat the rush, just like going to work.
4. Last of all you are going to want to keep things fun, you don’t have to make things boring.
So, first time for this little family to go to middle school. What a weird set of emotions for the parents too. Like many, I can recall my middle school experiences pretty vividly and they were not all pretty. Not to mention that this puts us that much closer to growing up. Ugh. Anyway, here are my tips that I have picked up over the few days that Pop has been at school:
- Get organized but be flexible – Middle School is not …um, as warm and fuzzy as elementary school. I am not getting a million updates every moment to help me stay on task. I am spoiled I admit. I had grown rather used to the pace of elementary school. Not anymore! While I thought we were easing into things, I learned that the pace is just quicker. For example – who knew that tennis tryouts would be on the THIRD day of school? Not me. So, we had to do a walk in Sports physical at Walgreens asap.
- Give independence but stay close – Especially with a 6th grader. Thankfully, she is not ready to take on everything by herself. But she os organized and on top of her classes, assignments, and schedule. That could lead me to not pay as much attention, but pop is so excited to share and talk right now that I absolutely make it a priority to be ready to listen.
- Remember your source – Okay, so all my information is coming from an almost 12 year old. I know about lockers, hairstyles and shoes than anything else. SOmetimes there may be some exaggerating and/or omitting of information. And now that she has multiple teachers with different personalities it’s possible she won’t like them all. Which does not mean they are bad teachers.
So, that’s it- all we’ve learned thus far. Stay with us as we navigate these new waters!
