Pop here and this is my first book review, so bare with me.I just read this book and I am in love! this book was so amazing I could’t put it down. I thought it was easy to read, it was funny, i liked the characters , and it stands out. I would recommend this book to anyone!

I just finished Rhoda Janzen’s book The Mennonite in A Little Black Dress. Okay, so pop and I found these two new books at the thrift store near our house.

Can I just pause for a moment and say that it was like the most incredible Ah-ha moment for me to realize that the thrift store was a veritable treasure chest of books. And how in the world have I shopped for, like, my whole life at these places and NEVER really looked at the book section. That’s pretty much insane. Like an ice cream addict passing up gelato because they don’t know what it is.

Okay, to the book. I like this book. It’s light, funny, twinged with sarcasm. It’s not a life changing novel, but it is a fun read. Give it a try.

Friday is For Singing

A few weeks ago I went out of town. When I would call to check in my pop would answer things with “ya, mon” and  “no, mon” and I knew it was official: she had found Bob Marley.

Since then the CD  (yes- an actual CD) has been playing in the wagon non stop.

So, though there is not quality video, here is our Friday is for singing pick this week:

New Silhouette

So, there’s this new style of slouchy trousers. It’s weirdly attractive to me. I know the girls in NY have been rocking this look for over a year now, but it takes longer to reach the masses in the suburbs. Yes, even with the internet. Anyway, I went and tried on a pair. I loved them. They were crazy comfy and so different from all the tight skinny everything that I’ve been wearing for the past year or two.

I left them at the store! Why, you ask? Well, because they were SO different for me and I wasn’t sure HOW to wear them. Sadly, this is one of the things I lost with youth- the ability to inherently do what I do and have it work because, you know, I ‘m  YOUNG. That season has passed.

Anyway, I did a little Google search (thankful every day for that search engine I tell ya) and found my solutions. Heading back to the store today and you may see me in town looking a little like this:

Avatars

We made avatars. Why? Because they were fun and silly and we needed a break from school/work/sports/etc.

Plus, we still love to make Miis and this was a little like that.

Want to make your own? Go here.

Oh- and no, I don’t have a mustache and Ava does not wear glasses. So much more fun to make them NOT like us.

4 Tips For Your First Day Of Middle School

Middle-School

  • POP

– this is pop here and i have just finished my first week of middle school! I had a good time and loved trying the new things out! Here are a few tips i have picked up over the few days I have been at that school.

1. Have a good generalization of your school and know where your hall is, this will make the first day go by in a breeze.

2. Next, you want to have yourself organized and ready to move fast. Middle school is a much faster  than  elementary school.

3. Also, you will want to have an organized locker and make sure you can get to all your things fast. You will want to beat the rush, just like going to work.

4. Last of all you are going to want to keep things fun, you don’t have to make things boring.

So, first time for this little family to go to middle school. What a weird set of emotions for the parents too.  Like many, I can recall my middle school experiences pretty vividly and they were not all pretty. Not to mention that this puts us that much closer to growing up. Ugh.  Anyway, here are my tips that I have picked up over the few days that Pop has been at school:

  1. Get organized but be flexible – Middle School is not …um, as warm and fuzzy as elementary school. I am not getting a million updates every moment to help me stay on task. I am spoiled I admit. I had grown rather used to the pace of elementary school. Not anymore!  While I thought we were easing into things, I learned that the pace is just quicker. For example – who knew that tennis tryouts would be on the THIRD day of school? Not me. So, we had to do a walk in Sports physical at Walgreens asap.
  2. Give independence but stay close – Especially with a 6th grader. Thankfully, she is not ready to take on everything by herself. But she os organized and on top of her classes, assignments, and schedule. That could lead me to not pay as much attention, but pop is so excited to share and talk right now that I absolutely make it a priority to be ready to listen.
  3. Remember your source – Okay, so all my information is coming from an almost 12 year old. I know about lockers, hairstyles and shoes than anything else. SOmetimes there may be some exaggerating and/or omitting of information. And now that she has multiple teachers with different personalities it’s possible she won’t like them all. Which does not mean they are bad teachers.

So, that’s it- all we’ve learned thus far. Stay with us as we navigate these new waters!

Back To School Jeans and Pants

Classical Here-

My little pop is starting middle school. What a big deal! I am excited for her to change classes and have a whole new experience. One of the largest changes – dress code. Gone are the shorts and athletic pants she could wear every single day in elementary school. So, we are on a wardrobe build up…starting from scratch and it’s been a lot of fun.

Pop Here

Now this is my first year of middle school, and i had to get a whole new wardrobe. Most of my wardrobe is made of pants. At first i was not up to the idea of pants , but when i started to look for some i really found some styles that i was loving!

DogSitting

POP’S PICK:

Now as a dog person dog sitting was easy, but like everything else it took time to get used to. I was like an over protective parent at first. I mean if any thing happened to this dog i was going to be  responsible   for it! That is a lot of pressure for 1 little girl! So as I went along I found some tips to help make everything go by easier.

1. When you are dog sitting you want the dog to feel at home. You will want to spend a lot of time with it and make sure it is ok with where it is.

2. Next, you will want to make sure the dog always has water and is fed when needed.

3.You will also want to walk the dog regularly. Dogs need their exercise and fresh air just like us.

4. Finally, just love the dog just as if it were yours                                                                                         CUTE!

WORDS FROM CLASSICAL

So, can I just say that this was a GREAT experiment? Pop was very responsible and took great pride in caring for this tiny pooch. And yes, we already own a dog so a lot of the behaviors we were already familiar with, but it IS different when it’s not your own dog. And this dog was tiny..it really was that chihuahua up above-  a teacup one that weighed no more than 3 pounds. Let me tell you- pop wasn’t the only one concerned. Big Papa is not a fan of tiny dogs…but even he grew to love this little ball of cuteness. NOTHING could have been more perfect for a tween either….

curls and twirls

Pop– Now just a few days ago I had my last school play!!! I was a flapper,(dancer from the 20s.) but with my costume I had to curl my hair. I took an hour with my mom curling my hair and when we were done………All of it was gone!!!! My hair is so thick that by the end of trying to curl my hair it all fell apart.  And here is what I thought my hair was going to  look like:

And here is what it turned out as:

:frizzybusiness Wow

But I am going to keep trying to get it to perfection!!
